Things to Do with Kids in Dallas, Texas

When you hear Dallas, Texas, it’s likely that ten-gallon hats and BBQ come to mind more than modern green spaces and top-notch museums. Sure, Dallas has some pretty great BBQ, but preconceived notions of cowboy boots and dusty lawless streets are tossed out the window as you discover hip neighborhoods, forward-thinking parks and amazing kid-friendly museums.

Check out our family favorite things to do with kids in Dallas, Texas!

Perot Museum of Nature and Science

I’m fairly certain my certain my preschooler could spend an entire weekend at the Perot Museum. From mega dinosaur fossils, giant geodes, interactive science and engineering robots, it is that good. We spend the afternoon exploring, creating (and shhhh, learning!) in this kid-centric, but fun for the whole family, museum. For kiddos 5 and under there’s even a museum within the museum! The Moody Family Children’s Museum has it’s own separate space where littles can climb the Dallas skyline and pretend play in the farmer’s market. A must visit!

Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens

The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden is an urban oasis and surprising kid mecca set lakeside at White Rock Lake. While the blooms are magnificent as anticipated, expect to find over 150 individual kid activities in the Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden. From water-propelled action to a giant kaleidoscope and a bird-eye view on The Texas Skywalk. Children interact with nature, science, and fun-centric learning throughout the well-groomed grounds. With so many fun activities, this video says it best! Check their calendar to find out the activity times, we had a blast learning about H2O!

Klyde Warren Park

With it’s food trucks, free fitness classes and family-friendly games, Klyde Warren Park in downtown Dallas might just be one of my favorite green spaces in the USA. Parkside game carts offer free books and games like CandyLand and Foosball. Note: they hold your driver’s license while you play. They also have fitness classes and a super-cool playground with splash pad. Check out their schedule of activities for free events including barre, story-time and tai chi. FREE

Dallas Museum of Art

Right next to Klyde Warren Park sits the Dallas Museum of Art. This museum is a lovely respite in the middle of downtown Dallas (especially in the summer heat) and general admission is FREE. While this stately museum looks all grown up, we were thrilled to find it’s totally kid-friendly. The Center for Creative Connections include art activities, a scavenger hunt and designated spaces for kids! A+
